Recently (like just awhile ago) I've been thinking about this question. I never bothered to really think of it before cos I've always had my own perception of what makes a man a true man. I based it on the people I've met in my life and the society I live in.

Lately though, I remembered that different people of different backgrounds may or may have different opinions compared to mine. So I'd like to know what you think? I'd like to gather as many answers as I can coming from both men and women.

But before anything, I don't want this thread to be an area for debate but merely for sharing opinions. It might be an interesting opportunity to see how views differ in the aspects of gender, culture and other things.

:)

Oh yeah, my opinion...

I think that a true man is a man who knows when to back down and when to fight. A man who has a real understanding of competition and winning.

well in my opinion it takes one x and one y chromosome

but I think this should clear it up for you

The difference between a man and a woman should be small. I don't give much about whether you have long or short hair, or whatever.

A man is someone who takes action and charts new territory. A woman is someone who keeps it in check and makes sure we don't do something stupid. For whatever I know about gender, it's like masculinity is recklessness, femininity is over-cautiousness. They should balance each other out.

But really, that's all ********. It varies too much between people, and to what purpose do we even need these qualities at this point.

I think that qualities are important. Not the qualities that people expect of you but qualities you try to develop in yourself because you think that's the person you want to be. I don't mean the difference between men and women. I meant the difference of men and women's view of what makes a true man.

Lately, one of the topic that the forum got busy about is men becoming un-manly because they are not tough enough. But those can easily be misunderstood

Personally, it doesn't matter much about what makes a man a true man, or a woman a true woman. It's about building yourself to become the person you want to be. Gender is not the issue. I just find the recent topics interesting.

That has always been my opinion.

This is a great question!

I use Arthur Fonzarelli as my basis. He had morals, stuck to them but was willing to see the other side of every story. He stuck up for the little guy and wouldn't take any ****. Despite looking like a hooligan, he was a top notch fellow! Also, he rode a motorcycle, which is pretty ******' manly.

One day I will be as cool as you, Fonzie! Then I, too, can have an office inside the lavatory of my local bar!

Also, check out that smile! Giving the whole world the thumbs-up, what a guy!

I don't care about what makes a man a man and a woman a woman, what I care about is whether or not people behave like adults, deal with the responsibility that comes along with it and treat others with respect.

Hell I don't even care if the person has a gender at all, they could be genderless!

To me, what makes a real man is him being able to take care of his own. And him caring enough to be involved.
