That's my second laptop (out of three). Though this one (Windows Vista) is even older than the dead one (Windows 7) and also about to die. The third one is new with Windows 11 installed but I've never used it in public so far because I'm afraid of such "incidents". Too many zoomers who want to break/steal/rob it for fun. The dead laptop was my DAW one so I can't access my music anymore. I wanted to migrate all the audio software and music to the new laptop during the holidays.

I think I’m starting to develop a little of that old agoraphobia that used to plague me years ago. It’s a beautiful fall day and I want to go for a walk, but I don’t want to do it alone. I keep making excuses - I need to do this or that at the house, I need to bake something, etc, etc. It’s not even a busy walk - it’s out in the country, for ****’s sake! I know I need to nip this quickly.

I've been thinking that since I was 5.
I could always find some way to occupy myself.
I never felt the need to go out of my way to start picking on someone.
This isn't me patting myself on the back or saying "look at me, I'm such a good person".
Part of it is due to the morality I was taught and agreed with but it's also, I just never had the interest in it. I never had the instinctive drive to do it.

Yet it's like you said, there do seem to be a lot of people that enjoy doing that stuff, and many more that are OK with it, and think it's the way things should be and no attempt should be made to offset it.
There's been a disturbing rise in that kind of thinking in the world.
I thought offsetting it, was the whole point of living in civilization and that the more we offset it, the better everything gets.
I guess that's why I've always leaned left politically.
I don't go for social hierarchies, or the kill or be killed mentality.
I don't think that's the way it has to be and therefore no attempt should be made to interfere with it - instead, I think it's something that we can, and should grow out of.

I agree, but the problem with that is that Elon Musk and the others like him, don't care at all about those in need.
Therefore they don't feel compelled to help.
They don't have sympathy/empathy. That personality type probably leans towards hyper-individualism and sociopathy.
They believe they are biologically/genetically superior, therefore their success is earned, and people in need's failure is deserved, and their suffering is just natural selection/biology taking its rightful course and no attempt should be made to alleviate it. They probably won't publicly admit it, but that kind of person thinks it's all about a person's breeding.
Which is convenient for Musk and friends, of course.
This is why I feel like people like him should NOT be in the driver's seat of society. They don't have our best interests at heart. They might be good at playing certain roles but they should not be in command because they don't care about people.

Thinking that something SHOULD be done to alleviate natural selection, is a big part of why I lean left politically.
I simply think that's what it means to be civilized - to offset natural selection with something smarter and kinder.

I don't even think he really cares about space and going to Mars. I think he just cares about himself.
He just says and does too many stupid things. I don't think he's even that much of a scientist. I think he just plays one in the media.

He's one of those, along with Trump and Kanye "Wise-***" West, who I actively try to avoid knowing anything about. They want attention, so I try not to give it to them.
I'm glad to say that so far, I know very little of what any of them has said or done this year, and I intend to keep it that way.
